Hong Kong’s Top 5 Wine Exporters in January 2022
Hong Kong’s wine importation at the start of the new year fell to HK$876 million.
Based on data from the Census and Statistics Department, wines entering the city from international sources dropped by 27% year on year in January.
Wines from its top importer, France, went down 22% in value to HK$518 million.
Australian exporters, who in the past months have shipped more wines to Hong Kong, delivered around HK$167 million worth of wines in the month, 41% lower compared to the same month in the previous year.
Italian wines that entered the city also dwindled by almost a fifth to HK$25.3 million.
Only wines from the United Kingdom and Chile saw growth in the month, climbing by 40% and 88% in value, respectively.
In terms of bottles, imported red wines went down by 28% to HK$778 million while imported champagnes decreased by 43% to HK$39 million. Ports and sherries coming from abroad also declined by 51% and 9%, respectively. Only imported white wines posted a yearly increase in January, rising by over a quarter to HK$49 million.
